RLW: The Ninemile Wolves

In many Chinese and Japanese cartoon shows I watched in my childhood, wolves are funny and entertaining characters, so in many Asian's mind, wolves are not that cruel and dangerous. Americans seem to look at wolves in a different way. However, the writer thought the wolves were strong and tough, so that they were able to survive extremely hard conditions. After reading the piece, I felt it so ironic that human beings first trying to kill wolves and then began to protect them. However, wolves could survive no matter how people and the environment treat them, because they are tough creatures. There is a detail that stays in my mind. It mentions that the usual image in people's mind about wolves are wolves chasing deers; however, what was happening, in fact, was that wolves were chased by human beings, such as ranchers and scientists. In our traditional idea, wolves are strong and dangerous animals. It seems rational to kill wolves. However, our hunting makes them very difficult to survive. But those wolves did develop their own ways of surviving all kinds of conditions during all these decades, no matter it was favorable or unfavorable. I think the writer was satirizing the people who were deciding whether or not to kill wolves. People had hard time deciding the pros and cons of killing or protecting wolves. However, the wolves seem as if they don't really care about our decisions, because they could survive either way. So why not just stop our jobs and let it go?
