100-Word Photograph

I chose the 54th picture in book. The picture shows a dead bird. As we could tell from the background, which is a coast, we know that the bird was dead because of the oil pollution. As we look closer, we can see that the dead bird is covered with black oil. The photographer was trying to focus on the dead bird in the front of the picture while making the background vague. Our attentions are attracted by the dead bird at the first glimpse and then we took a look at the background where the bird was dying, we understand how she died. We often heard from news about the oil spill and how it pollute the environment. I think what the photographers was trying to do is to provide the public with a good visual supplementation with the news.

  1. This is an effective explanation, and analysis, of the photo. This sort of writing will serve you well in this class. However, in terms of description, consider trying to paint a picture in words, so to speak. The more vivid the description, the more engaged your audience will be.
