RLW :Silent Spring

The author wrote this essay to inform American people with the seriousness of the DDT usage. She used both patho and logos in her essay to make it effective. Patho means she wrote with emotions. She tried to use her emotion to touch her audiences. For example, at the beginning of the article, she wrote, "There was once a town in the heart of America where all life seemed to live in harmony with surroundings." In this sentence, a lot of emotions were put in, so that the audiences could be touched.  She also used many data and quotes, which are logos. She provided her audiences with some facts to make her essay effective.Like in the third paragraph on page 368, there are many times and data. She also described the scene before and after the use of DDT, so that audiences can get idea how harmful DDT is. For example, in the first part of the article, she first described what the land used to be and what the land was after the use of DDT.
