Imitation Writing (Thoreau's Walden, chapter 2)

Today, men and women are doing exactly the same jobs, but there are still some jobs that may not suitable for women, such as killer. Killer is good a supplement to our plain and ordinary jobs. To be a killer means a totally distinct attitude towards life. A romantic and mysterious job similar to this could be pirate, spy or hunter. We live in a time when men are wearing shinny earrings, and are trying to make up themselves to attract females. Sometimes, men get lost and can’t help wondering what exactly a man supposes to do.  However, those romantic and mysterious jobs give us ideas of the charm a man could have originally, and the strength we could have as males.  They are man’s dreams which belong to the dark and negative side of our hearts. They satisfy our aboriginal impulsion and our lust towards mysteries and challenges.
Man’s attitude towards these jobs reminds me of a scene in a Chinese kung fu story. A young girl was at the window of her room looking at the stars in the dark sky in a spring night, when suddenly a man in black descended to her window like a wind. He smiled at her and told her honestly that he was the thief who was the most wanted. The girl was afraid and nervous, because it was the first time she saw a real thief. But she could not belief that a thief could be so charming and romantic that he could not only steal jewels but also her heart. She let the man in, and they chatted overnight. The thief left the next morning and was never back, however, the girl often thought of the incredible experience even when she became a grandmother. Man’s attitude towards a killer is pretty similar to the girl.
Today, we say men and women are equal. However, rather than saying more women are educated and have the capability of working with men, I would say it is the men who are feminized that makes a difference.  I can’t do kung fu so I can’t get into a girl’s room through her window at night. I don’t have any background knowledge on women psychology either. Therefore, I can’t tell if the thief story is reasonable or not.  However, I do know something. I know that a man grew up with all types of heroic stories.  Things we heard the most in our childhood were stories about heroes.  But after we grew up into adults, all heroes had been dead for a couple of years. Therefore, as a man, he has no choice but to become a woman.  A Woman wears corset on her waist. A man wears corset on his sole. A woman makes herself up to entertain the one she loves. A man drops to his knees to satisfy the society he lives in.  Therefore, every man is like an 18-year-old lonely girl, waiting anxiously for Mr. Killer passing by his room window. Looking at the handsome figure outside sneaking in the darkness, but then he take a look at his own waist, already too thin to support his weight. He begins to cry.
In the feminized environment, Mr. Killer survives. He has already sold his life to the old friend of Faust, therefore he is noble. A killer has his own ethics on terminating others’ lives; therefore killer is a career with both violence esthetics and black humor.  I remembered that in the city I lived, a killer broke into a senior manager’s office of an Asian international firm. He shot the manager’s head and disappeared like a ghost. Neighborhoods discussed the news while smoking downstairs in summer nights. Someone cited an ancient poet, if translated into English should be, “Every 10 steps there’s a man dead. Within thousands of miles there’s no trace. He disappears after it is done. No one knows his name.” Someone said, “How efficient!”
